The middle passage helps me understand how cruel people can be and for someone to be your mother figure you have to be able to trust and they can trust you and always have your back. Family isnt always about people who are related to you but people that u trust and it also taught me that a simple story like anasi can make a person happy and bring them joy-Arielle Ford
My knowledge and understanding increased a great lot, from what i knew to what i know now. I think that the slaves being forced to be put together with diseases that they came with was brutal. It says to me how racist and cruel the Europeans were in the past.Even today we see that there are black markets for young girls being transported all over the world to meet men's personal needs.I personally cant imagine the traumatic experience that the young people back then, some of which who might have been my age went through. If i was to go through that type of brutality i would die just by the thought.Knowing that your life can end any how or anywhere is one but, knowing that you are GOING to die is another. The scene where they threw aboard sick slaves tied and drowned them in the sea. This brings about a different type of trauma to one's mind.
The Africans packed together on the ships catching diseases and dying out and suffering, makes me think that I am happy to not have gone through that pain and torture. It makes me feel sad that my ancestors had to go through things like that. Africans were separated from their family and friends, they were scared and they cried not knowing what was going to happen to them next. Some thrown over board if they got sick. Others died from starvation. This seems so scary and the thought of this happening makes me very very frightened.
All the stories that came from our ancestors all occurred in Anansi which came from the Middle Passage. The slaves on the ships have been through a lot of torture and has caught so many diseases along the journey. I personally think that this has affected my life and other people's lives beacause of the lack of proper justice and how to deal with people who do wrong. Now a days people get away with big crimes while other people who do little crimes such as stealing ones bag of flour gets put in jail. This is not fair for many of us. I think people with legal rights as in the government (police officers) should take the correct act of justice for everyone no matter what race and ethnicity or background they come from.
The stories of the middle passage affects me in such a way that I believe that anyone who does this cruelty in the modern world should be killed because of the way the people were treated. The enclosed space they had made it much easier for them to catch a illness and if they had it they would be thrown overboard. The air that they breathed was very unhealthy and the still did not get enough fresh air on deck to suffice the amount they had breathed below. After learning all this I realized that my ancestors passed such tribulations that I should never pass this onto another race and we should all respect humanity and it is not up to us to take someone life. Due to this is said that the transatlantic slave trade especially the middle passage because of all the lives that was taken there.
Learning on how the slaves were brutalised and ill treated because of the self centered minds of Europeans impacted my thinking on how we should not ill treat others based on their skin colour and that we should not look down on them or consider ourselves higher than them. This broadened my thinking on how others should be treated and that i must not judge others based on their physical appearances, instead realize that we are all one no matter what race we belong to and we should grow together as a family to better ourselves and our communities. I believe that we should consider the middle passage as an example on how we should reconsider our actions before we react on it.
The middle passage is the trafficking of slaves from Africa to the Caribbean. The slaves from Africa were forced to leave their homes and leave everything behind and start a hard slavery life in the Caribbean. Upon the ship on their voyage the Africans got sick with measles and the other diseases from the Europeans and would be sent out in the sea with bags tied to them and they drowned of course. They would be given only one cup of maize porridge a day and were stacked in the ships by rows and rows piled up like wood for fire and tied to each other. The Africans had to go through so much before arriving the Caribbean and when they got there things didn't get better and they had to work on plantations. The Africans had suffered a lot and just like the little girl I would want to give up. Everytime i think of all the hardships the Africans had to go thorugh I feel sympathetic towards them and if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be where we are today with our different traditional dances and Calypso (storytelling)a and etc.
The middle passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were forcibly transported to the New World as part of the Atlantic slave trade. The knowledge I gained impacted me because I have more knowledge on the harsh conditions in which they were forced to live in. The slaves were not given proper hygiene, they were not fed properly and they were not given enough drink. On the ships diseases spread quickly and if u were found to bebe sick, you would be killed anyway. The slaves did not have proper bathroom facilities either. This impacted me because it made me more grateful for what I have and what my ancestors went through. ~Meekalys
In the middle passage of the drama named Anansi.Africans are taken from the West African Coast and brought to the Caribbean. The slaves held together locally known as 'a tin of sardines'.There were serve airbone disease that the caught from the Europeans.Once they were sick they were thrown overboard.Finding out on how slaves were beaten and mistreadted made me feel very sad and disappointed.I am really grateful for the resources i have today knowing the did not have it.
The middle passage was the stage of trade in which many Africans were forcibly transported from Africa to the Caribbean. During this trade many Africans were packed in a ship. The conditions were unsanitary and very bad. Due to this, many Africans and Europeans too, died of numerous diseases. People were chained and in the dark, they had no access to toilets and other sanitary necessities, apart from that they were only fed once a day . Disease and starvation, due to the length of the passage, were the main contributors to death. From all this, if learned that my ancestors have a very rich history, one filled with pain and sorrow. This as impacted me and an over all positive way and expanded my knowledge. Kurdian Tavernier
In the drama Anansi by Alistair Campbell focusing had a big impact on my opinion. After reading this drama I got a wider understanding about what middle passage is;it is the conditions the slaves went through from africa to the Caribbean. Some of the conditions were:illnesses they had no way of fighting it, hunger they couldn't feed on their own, death they had no choice over and depression, from being far away from their family, going somewhere and they had no family with them. They slaves being forced to be in the same place with people who had diseases was wicked. It let's me know that the Europeans are not only racist in this time, this century but they also were long before. I think that if I was a black person the ship, I wouldn't want to experience this pain. Having to be in chains,in my own mess and having been thrown overboard a boat......that is very brutal and sad.
In the drama Anansi,Alistair Campbell's focus on the Middle passage has impacted me greatly. After reading the story I got a better understanding of what the middle passage is.I believe that even though the slave trade is one of the most inhumane occurrences in the history of mankind the most dangerous part of it was the conditions that our ancestors had to go through by no fault of their own.The long passages they had to endure, with the illnesses spread amongst them brought even more problem. With the diseases that were commuted among them, they wee bond to suffer. I think that my new found knowledge of the Middle passage has helped me a lot,in today's society we see all these cases of human trafficking, and auctions t times it is too much t then i remember the tragedy my ancestors had to go through and realise that if the could do it do can I.
The middle passage is the route from Africa to the Caribbean used for the trafficking of slaves. In my opinion, it is the worst part of the Transatlantic trade. I have learned that the Europeans were the ones who had brought the different diseases to the Caribbean which caused some of the slaves to be thrown aboard and drowned. The slaves experienced fear throughout the entire time that they were being transported, seeing their own being thrown aboard and suffering under the wrath of the Europeans. I am more knowledgeable on the topic of slave trade and how they were treated. They had to survive with one meal a day, unable to move nor defend themselves. I feel very saddened that our ancestors had to go through such torture, pain and fear. We now benefit from their experiences because they got emancipated from slavery which made a way for the upcoming generations. It impacted me greatly because I have more knowledge about my ancestors.
The middle passage was the worst part of the trans-atlantic slave trade, where captured Africans were forcibly packed onto ships and brought to the Caribbean. The Africans were forced to sit in their own mess and stay among the many diseases. They were practically sitting among death every single day. I hope no one in the modern day has to experience this cruelty, knowing that people are still being trafficked makes me sick. So many lives were just thrown away because the Europeans did not see them as profitable. This opens my eyes to the cruelty people can do in conquest of wealth. My remorse and respect have grown for every single slave that was taken away from their home. Slavery has been made unforgivable in my mind and stays the worst thing to ever happen in human history. I don't think I could live without this information but I wish I didn't have to.
The middle passage was the stage of trade in which many Africans were forced to be transported from Africa to the Caribbean without any choice. Many Africans were packed in a ship, diseases had spread rapidly causing others to get sick. Those who were very sick were thrown overboard. I felt very sad that my African ancestors had to go through such a traumatic experience. Besides being thrown overboard, They had no washroom facilities, they had to be tied up in their own mess,They also had to go through starvation by eating one meal a day with not much nutrients. When reaching on the island, they were traded And sold. I feel hurt knowing they had no choice to leave or at least stop this horrible situation that was happening at the time.
The Middle Passage refers to the part of the trade where Africans, densely packed onto ships, were transported across the Atlantic to the West Indies.Slaves laid chained in rows on the floor of the hold or on shelves that ran around the inside of the ships' hulls. In reference to the book 'Anansi' the middle passage is being stress on because (in my opinion) this is where the most cruel actions happened. This is where the Europeans threw the sick people over board alive, and ill treated those who were left on board the ship. This is the exact reason why today the Atlantic ocean is so rough and the natural disasters the occur in that waters are so terrible, the souls of the thrown are restless and tired.
The middle passage was the stage of tge triangular of which millions of africans were forcibly transported. Gaining this knowledge made me feel sad and sympathetic towards my ancestors. This is becuase they were taken from there homes and were packed in terrible conditions. The part that hurt me most was rge fact that they were separated from their famillies and sat in their own mess contracting diseases and viruses of all kinds. When the african slaves were taken from their homes and transported to the US or the caribbean in very bad condition. When they arrived on the island they were treated like animals they didn't even own themselves. The slaves were beaten and women were raped. This information was very and for me to process because to think that someone would hurt another person so badly because of their skin complexion. This information left me very hurt because imagine being taken from your home and family and being brought to a place thats alien to you and then being treated like am animal by people you don't even know wouldn't u feel traumatized and depressed
My opinion on the Middle Passage is quite unsettling. It disturbed me to think of the tribulations that my ancestors went through at the hand of the Europeans. The pain of being packed together like sausages in a tin, sleeping in your own mess which can lead to getting sick, sleepless nights thinking of what the future holds or whether or not you will get to see your family again were all thoughts that came to me when I reflected on the Middle Passage. It made me furious to think that another human could be so cruel to someone else.
At an early age when I was introduced to the Middle Passage I never thought much about it. The way the white people treated the black people was inhumane. The knowledge gained had a positive impact on me. I realized that we should treat everyone with respect and dignity no matter the color of our skin because it can cause emotional and mental trauma like we are seeing today in the black community. We are all humans and made of dust. We all have to die and no one is higher than the other. We are all the same in the eyes of the beholder.
Alistair Campbell focuses heavily on The Middle Passage. The Middle Passage was the crossing of Africans to the Caribbean. In the novel 'Anansi', most of the scenes are set aboard a ship that is carrying 'cargo' to Jamaica. The novel effectively depicts what the Africans went through. African slaves and to endure pain and sustain starvation. Slaves were tied to each other and packed together. They had no bathrooms and had to urinate and excrete on themselves. Slaves were also in a high sick of getting sick, they had no immunity against European diseases and were vulnerable to airborne diseases due to the living conditions. If a slave got sick they would be thrown overboard alive and left to die. This knowledge has brought unto me a new sense of appreciation for the little things that not many consider a privilege. Simple things like going to the bathroom are taken for granted. These people [slaves] weren't even allowed to relieve themselves like humans beings should. How can one's freedom and human rights be completely disregarded, how can one be treated as a complete non-human due to their skin color?
The middle passage was the passage from Africa to the Carinbean. In my opinion, I think that the experience of the middle passage was an extremely traumatizing and horrible one for the slaves because om this passage slaves were being thrown overboard alive, diseases were being spread and the slaves were tied together and the slaves also had to sit in their mess for the entire journey, I also believe it was especially bad for the girl who had lost her blood mother and then lost the woman who she had just began calling mother throughout the drama. The knowledge I have gained impacted me how the slaves had to live. They survived on one meal a day which was porridge, they had to sit around others who were sick and those who were sick got no treatment, they were just murdered.

My opinion on the middle passage is that these were harsh and stringent measures that the Africans faced after having been forced onto ships. In today's society we still often see biases based on what the Europeans did to the Africans and I hope that one day this type of behaviour will become non-existent.

The middle passage was the outer used to traffic the slaves from affrica to the Caribbean. Their time through the passage was a horrific and mentally challenging one. For instance the slaves did not know where they were heading, disease killed some and there were also thrown over board. I also gained a sense of self worth and appreciation for them.Their journey through the middle passage helps me to never be a xenophobic. With the knowledge I am better equipped to teach others about the strengthd and virtue of my people. I can now say that black people stem from great strengths mentally and physically were are of hope, faith and wisdom
In the 'Anansi'story the authour focuses on the middle passage. The middle passage is a passage from West Africa to the Caribbean. In my opinion the passage was a harsh experience for the slaves because they were thrown overboard, they caught diseases and sat in their own mess because they didnt had bathroom to urinate ,they were also ill treated .The Europeans behaviour towards the Aftricans was not pleasant to look at.In our society we are looked based on our colour, race or ethnicity.Imagining the pain that our ancestors went through has an effect on my life and others lives because of lack of rights and proper justice due to the crimes that were being done or committed.
The middle passage allows me to understand the long forceful jerney from Africa to the Caribbean region that the Africans had to endure.Being exposed to rough treatment, being tied up,and drowned alive and illnesses with killed in numbers as they travelled over the ocean from island to island.I could imagine what they went through, being feed once a day, probably even once a week. The blacks had no say when it came to their freedom only thing they had was their songs and Anansi stories with kept them surviving, not even their bodies were truly thers. The Europeans were crul and took great adventage on the slaves. Its not right that you are placed in a unjust situation due to the skin colour of your body.I honesly believed if the Europeans had work together and learn the trade of the slaves the world would havr been a more peaceful.
The Middle Passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were forcibly transported to the New World as part of the Atlantic slave trade. By attaining this information i felt sad, depressed, considerate and sympathetic all because it touched me to see such wickedness being done to these innocent people which we refer to as my ancestors whom was being treated very badly. They were treated very cruely and taken from their homes for no possible reason. I really felt bad for those people because their were women in the mix whom they had no mercy for. They were raped and beaten, drowned alive, left hungry and starved in their own mess, and being tied up and contacting all kinds of sickness all being reasons for their death and deserved none of these treatments. I cant even imagine what it feels like to be taken from my family and being treated in such a way; these made the people hate themselves although it was not their fault. I personally was touched to see people of my own kind being beaten by people whom they don't even know and treated like animals. The middle passage helped me to understand that people can be treated unevenly because of their color and ethnicity.

ReplyDeleteIn the 'Anansi'story the authour focuses on the middle passage.

ReplyDeleteThe Middle Passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were forcibly transported to the New World as part of the Atlantic slave trade.
