In 'Anansi', Alistair Campbell stresses on Community. Identify the symbol he uses in the play to discuss this community. Discuss how community building continues across the Caribbean today.
In Anansi the web is used in the play to discuss the community and how strong they will remain not physically but mentally. The web is perceived as a connection with the slaves and their bonding. As we know a web is strong just as the slaves were.In the caribbean today there is a lot of countries coming together, besides their differences to make the world a better place for everyone. In the story there is something called six spectacular arrows,an example is (this is for fear:your fear makes you strong)In reality, when we are afraid we tend to get stronger and we think that by coming together with all the caribbean countries we seem stronger as one, when we help each other in time of need which include natural disaters and storms.
Marie-Yolanda Newton Community building is continues across the Caribbean today in so many ways.In amalgamation with the Anansi story written by, Alistair Campbell Anansi and his interaction with the other animals symbolizes our head of government interactions with the other countries of the Caribbean heads of government. Anansi also symbolizes us as BLACK people and the tiger as the WHITE men so proud yet so stupid , Anansi symbolizes that we as BLACK people can do anything though matter the circumstance or our size. A well known fact is that Anansi is the smallest creature in the forest but with his wit and his intelligence he is able to out smart everyone else.If we be more like Anansi we should act and be united for we can only accomplish so little by our selves. So as BLACK people we should unite and prosper not only here in Dominica but Caribbean wide.
Marie-Yolanda Newton As a Caribbean Region we (Dominica) consolidate with the other Caribbean countries. We (Caribbean countries) share in one currency ,one passport, same culture(for most countries) and ONE LOVE. We are all members of CARICOM and we make up the OECS.
Anansi's web is the symbol of community. The way the web connects its lines show how people of today in the Caribbean communicate and come together to form one unity. The people help to develop a connection between each other and to better understand each other in the community. The lines on Anansi's web show how not only one person forms the community but everyone helps and works together just like how the lines need each other to form an actual web. Without a group of people there will not have a community.
The symbol anansi uses is called the web.The way the web is connected is exactly how we should be connected. It represents how we should be connected and come together and try to help the community grow, develop and how we should all be one and try to connect, help, work and have patience with each other and better understand each other because everyone is different and comes from different communities, environments and places and have different cultures but we all have one thing in common,we are all caribbean people.-Arielle Ford
The symbol Alistair Campbell uses was the web. The symbol of the web is that all the slaves are connected. All the slaves are connected because they come from Africa where the "Anansi stories originiated". At the beginning of the story we saw how the girl was wondering where her mother was, then this woman came and told the child about the stories of Anansi. She passed on her knowledge to the girl. Community building continues across the Caribbean today through our culture. Calypso originated in Trinidad but other islands such as Dominica also takes part in singing and embracing Calypso just as Bouyon originated in Dominica but Guadeloupe also takes part in remixing and creating their own version of this genre of music, we call "French Bouyon". Also after major natural disasters people from the different islands move to sister countries for example, when there was Hurricane Maria in Dominica people from the islands migrated to countries such as Antigua and St.Lucia. In Caricom their is the great advantages of travelling outside of your country and getting the opportunity to work overseas.
The symbol used to discuss the community is Anansi’s web. The web depicts the way the Caribbean community buildings by showing how close we are in ways and in our settlements. It symbolizes the connection and the similarities of our culture and the beliefs of our people and the way we think. Our languages are close and this shows we should closer with each other because we come from the same background. This depicts the development and connection of the people in the modern world. The tradition we held are similar but just celebrated in different ways and at different times like carnival which celebrates the freedom of slavery. The famous saying the Caribbean is a melting pot means that we are all one with plenty different remedies or seasoning like soup.
The symbol he uses is the web,the way in which the strings of the web are connected we too should be connected as one.In the caribbean it is said to have a melting pot due to the different cultures and traditions the countries share. There are joint organisations such as OECS or CARICOM which help our caribbean countries to work together as grow as one. One big celebration we all share is carnival,it is to represent the day of emancipation when the slaves took to the strests to rejoice.
The Caribbean community have their music that brings the people together. Most of our culture comes from one place. Our organizations for example, OECS and Caricom. Most of the countries in the Caribbean share the same currency. On our passports, it shows that we are all one people within the same organisation. The different nations other countries when they are in need. The symbol that connects them together would be the stories that was told.
The symbol he uses to represent community is slavery, because the woman shares her wisdom with the girl. Community building continues around the Caribbean by islands helping other islands.A prime example is after Maria when Dominica was in destruction and devastation. Many islands reached out to offer assistance. They did so by sending food and drink and by opening schools to students.Another example is the fact that sometimes,Dominica does not have the equipment to deal with certain illnesses. The other islands help by opening their hospitals to the sick ~meekalys
In the story Campbell uses the web as a symbol to portray the community. In the story the web is used to symbolise one big family connected together with ties some of them didn't know the had.The main representation of this web in the story is on the slave ship, specifically among all the slaves. The slaves are bonded together not only by the chains on their hands but also by the Anansi stories told on board. This is the only thing keeping them alive. In today's Caribbean societies and communities we see almost the same thing happening. Communities are tied together with a mutual understanding of one another, and often times if not the same, variations of the original Anansi stories are told communities build up their selves with the different bonds they hold.In the Caribbean people of different islands are bought together by the different cultures we adapt. The similar foods we eat, dances we perform, sons we sing, games we play and religions we practice all bring us together. The different organisations most of us belong to are also ways we are connected.Organisations like the OECS,CCJ,CARIFTA,CDB and much more connect us in was many of us may not understand. The money, passport and native language most of us share is a clear example of that. All in all the Caribbean, true to its meaning is a melting pot of all cultures and traditions old and new which have been developed immensely over the centuries.
The symbol used in the play to discuss the community is anansi’s web. In the play, it symbolizes how all of the slaves in the story are connected together by the stories of their lives, their cultures and customs. In the Caribbean community building continues as we come together in many different ways and unite as a region helping each other to build up and become stronger. Take for example when the Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, Dominica had come to their aid, sending them supplies to help them get back on their feet. Also, after Hurricane Maria took place in Dominica, the different countries helped by sending workers to help restore electricity in the country. St. Lucia also acted as a home for students who had left after the hurricane. We connect through different organizations as well such as OECS, CARICOM, OAS and many others. The OECS which dedicated to economic harmonization and integration, protection of human and legal rights and encouragement of good governance between countries and territories in the eastern Caribbean. With CARICOM, it gives you certain rights which allows you to stay in any CARICOM country indefinitely, establish businesses and work without permission. Through all of these different things show that the Caribbean is one big family united and linked together.
In the novel Anansi he uses the web in the play to discuss the community. This web has kept the Africans(people of colour ) together no matter the struggles they had to go through they continued to do what they did best. That is storytelling and these stories give us wit and the resilience we need to survive. Anansi juxtaposes the bad things of the slavery with tales of humor and cunningness. We see how storytelling connected the girl and the woman on the voyage compares to the different traditions we share like carnival, and the different traditional dances. We have organizations like CARICOM and OECS coming together to help our economy.Calypso, soca, bouyon and all the other genres of Caribbean come from storytelling. Most Caribbean countries have the same currency(EC Eastern Caribbean Dollars) these countries include St Lucia, Dominica, St.Kitts,Antigua,Grenada, St.Vincent and more.We come together also when in time of disasters like hurricane for example after hurricane Maria in Dominica and hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas (how we helped each other rise back up.)
In the 'Anansi' novel, community is stressed upon by author, Alistair Campbell. He uses the web to symbolize the togetherness and resilience of the African people. It is the togetherness of the Africans that moulded the ways of the Caribbean people. The islands of the Caribbean continue to live together as a community as we are all connected through our culture, organizations and economy. We continue to share our culture at CARIFESTA which us held yearly. The Caribbean islands are also linked through organizations such as OECS,CARICOM, and ECCB. We are also linked through our currency as most of the Caribbean islands use the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. Most of the Caribbean islands maintain their economy by allowing cruise ships to dock on the islands. The Caribbean islands will forever remain connected as we are the melting pot of culture.
~~KURDIAN TAVERNIER In the novel, Alistair Campbell stressed on community. The symbol that he used in the play was anansi and the web. When Anasni started his web in the dark, the threads were tiny and weak this can represent the beginning of the relationship with the slaves but over time the web became stronger. Community building still continues across the Caribbean today. The Government of Dominica have bulit multiple houses for those in need in numerous communities. In 2017, After Maria, Other counties of the Caribbean helped Dominica but providing tapoline, canned goods and many other things. Another way the counties have grown is through the Caricom by promoting economic integration among members. In the communities of Dominica the NEP has greatly contributed.
In the'Anansi'story Campbell symbol used in the play to dicuss the community was the web where all the slaves are connected by their stories and culture. This shows how the Caribbean people are connected with each other through different aspects .Community building across the Caribbean today helps each other in Many aspects these include organization (OECS),dance, religion, music, festivals. We have different groups which goes abroad to vist different places (Girl Up) Creole Festivals where different artist come down to play.Dominica Eastern Caribbean money links to other countries such as St.Lucia , Antigua and Barbuda.
Our Caribbean region has a logo or caricom (caribbean communtiny) which distincts us from the rest of the world. This brings us in union with one another. Our culture is similar and we all come together to keep it alive through our different organisations such as OECS,OAS,CCCCC and lots more. These all focus on different aspects such as climate and economy in the caribbean. This proves that we are in union with one another with our problems
The Web is used to discuss community in the play, it shows the growing connection between the people forming a sense of unity and community. As the slaves were connected by their heritage so are the Caribbean islands, we share our festivals, music, art and experiences to form a community. Between the islands our cultures are mixed and blended to form new experiences, just look at the new Bouyon influence in Soca or how cadencelypso is a popular genre in the French islands. We have also formed organisations throughout the islands like OECS, ECCB and Caricom which help to improve life throughout the islands, this is why we share a passport and the same currency in most islands. Whenever disaster strikes the whole region bands together to help whichever island is affected, just look at when Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas and so much aid was sent and when St.Lucia took in so many Dominican students. Things like CXC to Carifta all connect us.
Annansi’s web is the symbol used in this play. This Symbolizes how the slaves are connected and how they came together as one. This helps us come together because of our culture, religion, language and the way we do many different activities as one. Anansi’s web is similiar to the way we help one another and keep each other standing strong. Other carribean countries such as st.lucia helped us after our country Dominica went through a serious hurricane(Hurricane Maria). After being helped by many carribean countries we helped the bahamas.Organisations such as the OECS,CCJ,CDB and much others connect us in many ways. The money, passport and language most of us share are the ways we connect with each other in this community.
The symbol that Alistair Campbell use in 'Anansi', to discuss the Community, is that of the Web. Community building continues across the Caribbean today by the use of music, festivals such as carnival and organizations such as CARICOM, OECS, and ECCB.
In respect to music, different Caribbean Artists, such as Machel Montano, a Trinidadian Artist, took Dominica's conch-shell rhythm and merged it with his local music called Soca. This is one of the ways in which music can be promoted throughout the Caribbean.
Festivals such as Carnival, were brought about by our Ancestors to celebrate emancipation from slavery, hence the reason for the celebration of carnival in Caribbean Countries today. Carnival reminds us, the descendants of the African Slaves, of a joyous moment in the lives of our forefathers. This unforgettable moment of happiness that they shared has united us to the point that we travel to our sister islands to celebrate with them. During this grand celebration, calypso and cadence-lypso is also played. This genre of music is a form of story telling. Calypso is played in mostly every Caribbean Island during their carnival celebrations.
CARICOM, and OECS helps to promote trade among its members and ensures that benefits are fairly distributed, facilitates with the free movement of citizens from one member state to the next and also assist in times of disasters .
The ECCB assists with the maintaining of a stable and common currency within the Caribbean Region.
This integration can be compared to that of Anansi's web since we all connect in different ways.
In Anansi's web it shows the resilience ,strength and unity of the Caribbean islands.the web also shows our likeness and similarities.organizations like OECS, Caribbean community and Verizon help in the building of the Caribbean region .caricom promotes economic integration and cooperation amongst it's members ensuring that benefits of the integration are equally shared. Also the fact that caribbean countries share the same currency and passport so that anytime a Caribbean person travels within the region of migrated the will be no difficulties in getting a job or spending money. In the Caribbean we share the same culture and even background which brings us even closer together. Community building across the Caribbean is also showed when we donate or help to rebuild other caribbean islands after a natural disater.
In 'Anansi' the symbol that Alistair Campbell uses to discuss the community in the play, is that of a Web. The Web depicts a sense of unity amongst it's citizens today, seeing that there is a connection of lines joining different Caribbean countries together as one. We share things in common things in the Caribbean like for eg: culture. The Web help in a more stabilized connection among Caribbean people and help better understand each other. It symbolizes the connection of our people and organizations like OECS AND CARICOM to help in the building of the Caribbean Region. CARICOM promots economic integration and cooperation among its members and ensuring that benefits of the integration are equally distributed. We also, share the same background in the Caribbean as well as assisting in the donations of countries caused by the damages of natural disaster, throughout the Caribbean Region
The author, Alistair Campbell made community a stand out aspect of his novel,'Anansi'. He uses the web to symbolize the community that was forming within the African people. The slaves had alike traditions, this linked and interlocked them in a way that they grew together into a big community. They supported each other and stood together through the rough times they had to overcome. We can see this same persistent community forming within the Caribbean islands. We also have many things in common, our foods, music, carnivals and art. Our islands are also forming new unique links by mixing and matching our cultures together to form a community. We can see this in the fusions of cultural music, new genres who have influences from others, a good example is Cadence Lypso which is derived from Cadence and Calypso music. We can see this mixture of cultures displayed at CARIFESTA, an annual festival that displays Caribbean art in all its forms. Within the Caribbean we also create links through organizations like, OECS, CARICOM and ECCB. These organizations offer economical harmonization and help the protection of human and legal rights. Thanks to these organization numerous Caribbean countries share the same passport and currency. When a disaster occurs and any Caribbean island is badly damaged the others provide a helping hand to get back up. Just like when hurricane Maria hit Dominica, or when hurricane Dorian hit The Bahamas. There are many things that make the Caribbean a growing community, and it will not stop growing.
the Anansi web was used to symbolize the relationship between the African slaves.the slaves shared different traditions among each other and comforted each other though the rough times . the same relationship is seen among the Caribbean islands. throughout the Caribbean we have different traditions and beliefs but we still come together, comfort and support each other like how the slaves came together, comforted and supported each other.there are organizations such as OECS,CARICOM and ECCB which helps us stay connected.
In the story of Anansi, the author Alistair Campbell describe the community in the form of a web.The web shows the unity of the people of the Caribbean. The Caribbean we can be referred to as a web because we share some things in common such as our culture and language. Also there are different organisations that link the Caribbean community such as OCES and CARICOM. For example OECS is an inter-governmental organisation dedicated to economic harmonisation and integration, protection of human and legal rights, and the encouragement of good governance between countries and territories in the Eastern Caribbean. All these characteristics help in the union and co-operation of the people of the Caribbean and their Countries. Community building across the Caribbean is also shown when we assist Countries during hurricane seasons and seek help in recovering from natural diasters by sponsoring them.

ReplyDeletethe Anansi web was used to symbolize the relationship between the African slaves.the slaves shared different traditions among each other and comforted each other though the rough times . the same relationship is seen among the Caribbean islands. throughout the Caribbean we have different traditions and beliefs but we still come together, comfort and support each other like how the slaves came together, comforted and supported each other.there are organizations such as OECS,CARICOM and ECCB which helps us stay connected.

ReplyDeleteIn the story of Anansi, the author Alistair Campbell describe the community in the form of a web.The web shows the unity of the people of the Caribbean.
